This book is for you if
She has arrived, or arrives soon. Or she has been with you for two months and something is not quite working and you cannot name it.
The job usually gets communicated in fragments, mostly as corrections, over the first six weeks. By the end of it she has assembled the role out of forty small failures, and every conversation the two of you have had about the work has been a conversation about something that went wrong. Nobody chose that. It is what happens when a job is transmitted by correction rather than stated in advance.
Not for you if you have not hired yet. Book 1 first, because the job description this book uses is the one you write there.
What is inside
The contents, as they appear in the book.
- Part 1. The first seventy-two hours. What must happen and by when, day one in order, and the conversation that protects your security bond.
- Part 2. The fortnight. The twelve conversations and what to bring to each. Who gives instructions when more than one person lives here. Starting the fortnight late, which is where most readers actually are.
- Part 3. The two that are not in her book. Money, time, food and the table, privacy and contact.
- Part 4. When yes does not mean yes. Why an affirmative is not confirmation, six things to do instead, and the four sentences that cause the most trouble.
- Part 5. How she tells you something. The fortnightly check-in, what to do with what she says, and the routes that are not you.
- Part 6. Weeks three to six, when it goes wrong. The four checks before you conclude anything about the person, and the failure modes that actually happen.
- Part 7. Day ninety. The review, and the question underneath all of it.
- Part 8. If it ends.
- Part 9. Your side of it.
- The forms. The arrival record, the fortnight calendar, the check-in record, the feedback log and the adjustment record.
What you have at the end
A set of written standards you both agreed to, a check-in schedule in the calendar, and a documented ninety day conversation. The thing you can look at in month eight when something feels off.
